How about “America is our junkie kid.”?

Things are progressing.  Google Analytics is collecting data, and I’ve got an email address of john that-squiggly-at-symbol goingjohngalt.org.  Drop me a line if you’ve something non-commentish to say.

I was thinking about my tagline above, “Loving this country enough to leave it.”  While it sorta captures something I’m trying to say, it might be too inexact.  For one, I don’t have any actual plans to leave the USA (although New Zealand remains Plan B), simply because I don’t expect there to be a greatly preferable alternative.  I’d run if I had somewhere to go, but the problems affecting the US are not specific to it.  For good or ill, this is where I’ll make my stand.

This is what I was trying to get across: the situation isn’t going to improve by doing the same thing, pouring our energies into strategies that only yield minimal and temporary results.  And it’s not going to be painless either.  Unlike the fictional John Galt, we have no Atlantis to retire to to wait this out.  We need to “leave” the land America has become in the hope of one day returning to the America which always should have been.  But America won’t change if we keep feeding its addiction.

i know that’s a big steaming pile of abstractions and metaphors, but that’s okay because I was only trying to explain my tagline.  Getting more concrete is the whole point of this site, and will take some time.
